Breakfast

Breakfast

Breakfast can be a difficult meal.  First of all, it comes too early in the morning.  I don’t want to fuss at breakfast time.  That is for brunch.  Second, there are not very many healthy choices.  We have gone to breakfast drinks; easy, quick, minimal mess, and nutritious.  I even travel with them, although I may have to make some modifications to my regular routine unless I take my own Blendtec blender.

We like the Ultrameal family of drinks by Metagenics. There are several to choose from, depending on soy or dairy allergies and if you have diabetes. The regular Ultrameal is a medical food designed to nutritionally support improvement of body composition.  It promotes the loss of body fat while helping to maintain lean muscle mass.  It also supports healthy heart function.  It is a high protein/low glycemic meal that ensures sound nutrition.  It is gluten and dairy free except for the Ultrameal Whey. The Ultrameal Plus 360 is a medical food formulated to provide nutritional support for those with metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular issues.  It helps reduce total cholesterol and helps support healthy insulin function and blood sugar levels. You can read more in the Metagenics store about which variety best suits your needs.  Although it comes in  a variety of flavors, I always buy vanilla.  My favorite way to eat it is to put an English cucumber in the Blendtec or other super blender and pulverize it.  Then I add 1-2 tablespoons of hemp seed.  I add 2 scoops of the Ultrameal vanilla and about a dozen ice cubes and blend on smoothie setting.  This makes a delicious and satisfying drink that keeps me going until lunch time.
